Hardrock Sport components
Fork
The Hardrock Sport comes factory-installed with the SunTour XCT fork. This has a travel range of 80mm. Bike forks are good shock absorbers and provide a smooth ride and a great experience. In conclusion, always look for a fork with decent travel when you buy a bike.
Fork material
Hardrock Sport has an aluminum fork, which doesn’t add too much extra weight to the bike. However, it is not so stiff as steel or carbon forks are.
Wheels
As for the wheels, Specialized Hardrock Sport 2009, has a 26″ aluminum model. The 26″ wheels are lighter than the 27.5 or 29″ wheels. However, they are less forgiving when riding over obstacles such as bumps and roots.
Brakes
We ride faster and faster, so a good braking system is essential on a bike nowadays. The Hardrock Sport comes with Rim brakes. Rim brakes are cheaper than hydraulic brakes, and also easier to maintain. However, they have problems in wet conditions.
