Fork material
The fork is made out of steel, which tends to be more flexible than carbon forks in general. However, a carbon fork is considerably lighter.
Wheels
The Ogre 2017 bike is equipped with 29″ aluminum wheels when leaving the factory. Having 29″ wheels means that you need less fork travel, leading to a reduction of the pedal bob effect. However, 29″ wheels will make your bike react slower to obstacles you may encounter.
Brakes
Nothing is more important on a bike than its ability to brake properly. Surly Ogre is equipped with Mechanical Disc brakes. They deliver good performance and cost less than hydraulic disk brakes. However, performance-wise there is room for improvement.
