Overview of components
Fork
The Advance comes factory-installed with the Suntour fork. This has a travel range of 63mm. Bike forks absorb the shocks and give you a smooth and pleasant ride. In short, you should always ensure you have a good fork when purchasing a bike.
Wheels
The Advance 2002 bike is equipped with 26″ wheels when leaving the factory. The 26″ wheels are lighter than the 27.5 or 29″ wheels. However, they are less forgiving when riding over obstacles such as bumps and roots.
Brakes
Nothing is more important on a bike than its ability to brake properly. Gary Fisher Advance is equipped with Rim brakes. Rim brakes are cheaper than hydraulic brakes, and also easier to maintain. However, they are not nearly as effective as hydraulic brakes are.
