Overview of components
Fork
Specialized Hardrock 26 2014 bike is equipped with the SunTour fork, and has 75mm travel. Bike forks are great for shock absorption and provide you with a smooth ride. In short, you should always ensure you have a good fork when purchasing a bike.
Fork material
The fork on this bike is made out of aluminum, so there won’t be much extra weight added to the bike. However, they are not so stiff as carbon forks are.
Wheels size
The wheels on Hardrock 26 are the 26″ aluminum type. These wheels give you great handling over your bike. However, you will need increased suspension than in the case of 29″ wheels.
Brakes
We ride faster and faster, so a good braking system is essential on a bike nowadays. The Hardrock 26 comes with Rim brakes. Rim brakes are cheaper than hydraulic brakes, and also easier to maintain. However, you could spend a little extra and get a bike that has hydraulic brakes.
